1.) Right now I am reading the book Maze Runner by James Dashner and I am on page 64. In the book right now a girl has come up the elevator which has never happened before because everybody in the Glade are boys. The girl says that the end is near and she falls into a coma. The medics in the Glade don't know what is wrong with her so they move her to the homestead. After she is taken away Thomas feels like he has a connection with her even though he has no clear memories. He also worries that Alby and others associate him and his arrival with the sudden change in the pattern of Box arrivals, and with the threat of change brought by the girl. Then Thomas and another boy from the Glade start to wonder why they are in the Glade. They think that they may be criminals sent to prison for reasons they do not know.

2.) I really like this book for many reasons. One reason is that it is like a dystopian world because a number are stuck in this area called the Glade and they have to find a way out. Books that have this kind of setting of my favorite because people usually have to colonize a new society. There is usually a bigger force suppressing them and they have to fight back and rebel which I find really cool. I also like this book because it reminds me of The Hunger Games series which is my favorite series of all time because the settings are both in dystopian worlds and they are not able to leave because the areas are surrounded.

3.) I think the theme of this book is the desire to escape. The reason I think this is a theme is because there are certain jobs in the Glade and one of the jobs is to be a runner. These runners run around the maze searching for an exit because the people in the Glade want to escape. Another example is when Thomas is entering the Glade in the elevator at the beginning of the book.  Thomas can't remember anything but his name and he doesn't know why he is in a elevator. While he is in the elevator he pounds on the walls, looks all around for an exit, and screams for help. Also the plot of the book is to find a way out of the Glade and why they are in there in the first place. So I think this is the perfect theme for this book because of these reasons.

4.) My favorite character in this book is Thomas because he reminds me of myself. If I were to choose a job in the Glade I would want to be a runner like him because a job like being a farmer I think would be very boring. Even though Thomas is new to the Glade he still wants to be a runner even though being a runner is the hardest job and you need a lot of experience in order be one. I also really like Thomas because I really want to know what his life was like before the glade, but he can't remember so that makes me wonder what his life was like. An example is does he have a brother or sister? Or does his family know that he has left and if he has been replaced? Thomas reminds me of myself because he seems daring and really curious like me. Thomas is also mysterious and he really interests me because I want to know what his life was like before.

5.) I don't really have a least favorite character, but if I had to choose it would be more like a group of characters. In the beginning of the book when Thomas is being pulled out of the elevator and there is a group of boys laughing at him. I don't like the group of boys because every month a new boy comes into the Glade and so it isn't anything new to them. So since they are used to it they laugh at Thomas and they act very meanly to Thomas. I feel like they should have given Thomas his space and just let Alby talk to him. All of the characters so far I have taken a liking to but if i were to choose my least favorite I would choose that group of boys.

6.) I am very curious about the end of this book. I predict that the way they are going to find a way out is by going into the maze and letting the gates close. Then they will follow one of the monsters around and the monster will lead them to the way out of the Glade. Or the other way they will get of the Glade will be that they figure out a way to work the elevator and they will use it to escape. I also have a prediction about that all of the kids in the Glade are being replaced in the families by other kids. This book makes you ask a lot of questions and these are the predictions of what I think will happen.

  1. Alex's Comment:
I felt like this was one of the best books i have ever read. It was so interesting and every page had something on it that made you have to keep reading. I love the adventure in the book, and it was a perfect read for me, not too hard and not too easy. I liked your blog post a lot especially your theme. I would probably not have thought of the theme in that sense and I agree and think it was a very well done way to write it. I agreed with your favorite character strongly! Thomas was by far, my favorite character as well, and for the same reasons. I relate to Thomas as well, because I would want to get out of there and become a runner. I would feel like it is my duty and responsibility to help everyone get out because he was the last boy to come through, and he was sort of like a trigger for everything else in the book to start happening. Something I don't agree with you is your least favorite character. My least favorite character is someone named Gally, who I don't believe you had met yet in the story. Gally despises Thomas and feels like Thomas is some sort of spy from the people who sent them all to the maze to keep track of them all. Gally also wants to kill Thomas, and is constantly rude to him. Gally also creeps me out during the whole book. He is a little unhinged and I don't think I would ever be his friend.
